![]() ![]() ![]() Why do you prefer Google workspace over Backblaze? ![]() You prefer using Arq over things like Chronosync? I use chronosync for cloning my work drives, and it seems to have an option for doing the same to servers. Otherwise you'd probably have to sync from laptop to desktop and have the desktop run BB client while you're on the road. Best solution for remote work is probably to just add a license for your laptop and have that backed up separately. So if you set it up for your desktop the client runs on the desktop and if you've disconnected a drive it won't get backed up. So you never upload to BB, its client software does it.Īlso, from what I understand the backup is of your computer(s) and any drive(s) attached to it/them. Backblaze then works in the background as scheduled (or manually triggered) and uploads to the Backblaze servers.īut you don't have access to a "server folder" the way you do on say Google Drive, it's more like you have access to an index of your files (with folder structure) that live somewhere on BB's servers. You install the Backblaze client app on the computer you want to back up and you point to the drives/folders you want to back up. In that scenario, am I still able to backup to the same folder in backblaze using something like chronosync so that it's only updating the server folder with additions/deletions instead of making a whole new copy?Backblaze isn't a cloud storage "folder" or "customer space" per se as far as I know. Only other question I'm finding is that while I normally work off my main desktop, sometimes I'll work offsite on work-cations (wow, can't believe I just used that term) and just take my laptop and drives with me. I was backed up locally so it wasn't technically urgent. It was easier for me to clone the drive they sent me to a fresh SSD and simply send it back empty. I had them send a drive because the current drive that died was a little under 1TB and it would take way too long to download it. To my knowledge there isn't any additional fees to download. I'm not sure the speed compared to other cloud servers as this is the only one I use. Yes, you can download a whole drive or individual folders, or even individual files within a folder. When you mentioned they sent a physical drive to you, was that necessary because it would've been too time-consuming or costly to download directly over the web?I wish I could answer all of your questions, but I cannot. How quick are the upload speeds to Backblaze, and can it connect via Chronosync (looks like Chronosycnc gives an option for it)? When you mentioned they sent a physical drive to you, was that necessary because it would've been too time-consuming or costly to download directly over the web? In the event of emergency and I need to download either my whole drive or just some folders, am I able to do that direct from backblaze, and if so does it download at typical high speed server rates, or is it slow like most consumer cloud servers?Īre there costs associated with downloads/uploads, or just a monthly fee for total storage space? I was backed up locally as well, but they really came in handy quickly. How quick are the upload speeds to Backblaze, and can it connect via Chronosync (looks like Chronosycnc gives an option for it)? I think they overnighted it to me, then I just returned the drive to them and they refunded me the price minus the shipping back. Earlier in the year my current work drive at the time (Samsung SSD) crashed on me and they sent me a physical harddrive for me to copy over all the info. Backblaze - I back up my Mac Pro and then my Main Archive/individual work drives to it. ![]()
